Join other DSC volunteers for a full day of one-on-one firearm safety instruction for youth. DSC will have over 125 students and 125 parents attend our youth event and we need YOU. DSC will provide all food, water, firearms, bows, targets and shade. We just need you.
To sign-up, email firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, preferred email address and preferred station: pistol, rifle, shotgun, archery, muzzleloader, group assistant, catering or “where needed” if no preference (see below for more information). Please also include if you are available to help set up early Friday morning. (We will also need help taking down Saturday afternoon!)
Activities include: Teaching the safe and responsible handling of firearms. Youth participants shoot rifles, revolvers, shotguns, muzzleloaders and archery equipment. Seminars are during lunch. Transportation, event T-shirt, cap, lunch and beverages provided by Dallas Safari Club.
This is an opportunity to engage someone else – don’t just BE a volunteer, BRING a volunteer! Tell someone else about how much fun you have teaching youth about shooting sports.
S.A.F.E.T.Y. Committee Descriptions
Approximately 30 volunteers needed at each event to assist youth and parents throughout the day.
Typically there are around 125 students, along with a parent or guardian at each event. Upon arrival they are divided into 6 groups. Each group is assigned 4-5 volunteers who guide them from venue to venue. The top priority is serving as a liaison between the student/parent groups and the skills leaders as they rotate through the skills stations: Archery, Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, Muzzleloading and Field Exercises. Group Assistants are very active in breaking down barriers that the youth and parents may have about our industry. There is not a need for a great deal of shooting experience as a group leader, but that is always welcome!
We typically ask that first time volunteers serve as a group assistant in order to see the whole event before volunteering at a specific skills station.
Approximately 15 volunteers needed per skills station, for a total of 75 skills volunteers. If you are proficient in any of the following skills areas and feel comfortable instructing youth (middle and high school age) on how to load, unload and properly handle and shoot a specific skill you are needed! Emphasis on safety procedures and how to properly handle a firearm. You are also tasked with teaching them about conservation, ethical hunting and the shooting sports.
Skills areas include: Archery, Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, and Muzzleloading (black powder).
We are need of several volunteers to assist with additional duties to ensure that each event runs smoothly. Areas may include catering, distributing water to skills stations and supporting skills stations with various needs.
Not only are we impacting youth for the future, but it is a great opportunity for you to meet fellow volunteers and DSC members!
