Coming in Hot! – President's Message August 2021

How is it already August??? Schools are starting back up, international hunting seasons are open (YAY!), deer lease preparations are underway, and the excitement is building for DSC’s 40th Anniversary Convention. Plans are underway for a show that is going to be one for the record books!

Before we get there though, we’ve got “Evening at the Mansion” coming up on Saturday, August 14. Make sure to mark your calendars to participate in the online auction if you can’t attend in person. I’m sure you’ve seen the auction item highlights and have seen the awesome lineup. You don’t want to miss out on some of the incredible items up for bid! Details for the online auction can be found at https://dsc.onlinehuntingauctions.com/.

This has been a transformational month at DSC. As you have seen in our announcement, DSC and DSC Foundation have restructured in an agreement that will move both organizations forward. Corey Mason will lead both organizations as the CEO and bring his unique set of talents and experience for a more streamlined approach. This is a tremendous opportunity to advance both organizations with a united voice and messaging.

Don’t forget that award nominations are due in the next few weeks as well. Applications for both the Capstick Award and the Colin Caruthers Youth Hunter Award need to be submitted by August 25. Both of these awards recognize an individual who is committed to hunting conservation, one with years of experience and one to a young member that is the future of our way of life. I encourage you to give some thought to those types of individuals and nominate a truly deserving applicant. Details can be found on our website or click here for more information.

As summer begins to wind down and fall activities begin, I encourage you to engage with DSC on a deeper level. See how this organization is working for you and how you can become more involved. Don’t forget to make your plans to attend the convention too, and maybe even volunteer. I anxiously look forward to seeing you there!
